The Beginners course is designed to equip the student with the foundations of communicational Malay, where a basic proficiency in the Malay language will be developed to enable simple communication in everyday situations.

The objective of the Beginners course is to assist the student in coping with everyday communication, whether business or inter-personal, while on exchange in Malaysia and when visiting neighbouring Malay-speaking countries.

By the end of the course the student will understand:
* social and business culture in Malaysia

* basic vocabulary and pronunciation
* basic proficiency in communicational Malay

Kirjallisuus ja muu materiaali

Literature and Reference listings will be provided by the lecturer and are subject to change according to current needs. The lecturer will notify of any changes.

Ovi Portaali will be used extensively as a teaching and learning tool.

Opetusmenetelmät

Attendance at all classes is recommended. Mode of presentation will vary and where appropriate will consist of lectures, discussions as well as group and individual exercises. Teaching tools will include audio-visual aids with an emphasis on student participation to enhance fluency in speech and enunciation.

Arvioinnin perusteet

In order to pass this module the student must obtain a minimum of 40% from the composite grade for the module (100%). The assessment weighting is stipulated below.

Oral Examination 20%
Written Examination 80%
