Course contents (core content level)
WAN technologies overview, scaling IP addresses with Network Address Translation (NAT) and Port Address Translation (PAT), Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), configuring PPP, PPP authentication, Frame Relay concepts, terminology and address mapping.
Course contents (additional)
DHCP relay, Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) interfaces and reference points, ISDN and Dial-on-demand routing (DDR) concepts and configuration, the concepts of Frame Relay LMI and Inverse ARP.
Core content level learning outcomes (knowledge and understanding)
After completing the unit the student will understand the concepts of Network Address Translation (NAT) and Port Address Translation (PAT), the features of Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP). The student understands the basics of WAN technologies like Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) and Frame Relay.
Core content level learning outcomes (skills)
After completing the unit the student is able to configure, verify and troubleshoot the HDLC and PPP encapsulation, configure and troubleshoot PPP authentication, NAT, PAT and DHCP. The student is able to configure and verify and troubleshoot a Frame Relay connection.
