Electromagnetic fields, Maxwell´s equations, Poynting vector, RF spectrum, radio wave propagation, Fresnel´s zone, antennas, transmission lines, Friis transmission formula, radar equation.
Course contents (additional)
Radio link budget RLB, transmission lines and matching, reflection factor and VSWR, matching principles, waveguides, radio systems, transmitters and receivers.
Core content level learning outcomes (knowledge and understanding)
After completing the unit the student knows the electromagnetic fields and field parameters and the RF spectrum. The student is able to understand radio wave propagation modes and attenuation and an antenna principles. The student has knowledge of an antenna parameters and the student knows the Friis formula and the radar equation.
Core content level learning outcomes (skills)
After completing the unit the student has skills to calculate radiated power of the transmitter, field strength of the radio wave, radio path attenuation, the effective area of an antenna and received power by the receiver. The student is able to apply the Friis transmission formula and the radar equation.
