Descriptions

Prerequisites

Industrial placement is an important part of studies. Bachelor of Engineering degree includes 20 weeks (30 credit points) of industrial placement. Industrial placement is carried out in the 5th periods of the academic year after 1st, 2nd and/or 3rd study year. Industrial placement has to be undertaken at least in two parts. The maximum of 15 credit points (10 weeks) can be accomplished during one academic year. Industrial placement is carried out during study time as present student.

Industrial placement is carried out as full-time work. The maximum of 10 credit points can be carried out as part-time work. Part-time work the workload of which is at least 10 hours per week can be accepted as industrial placement.

Course contents (core content level)

A student familiarises him/herself in a controlled way with work tasks that are important to particular professional field and develops his/her professional competence and abilities to apply knowledge and skills into working life (see Polytechnic degree 256/95, § 7).

All industrial placement is undertaken as profession-related industrial placement related to one´s field of study. In the beginning of studies a student should seek for practical work tasks (Professional Industrial Placement 1) and in the progress of studies and after obtaining professional skills through studies, a student should seek for more demanding tasks that guide towards the future profession (Professional Industrial Placement 2).

Course contents (additional)

Industrial placement aims at making a student widely familiar with the work tasks and working environments of the particular professional field and guide a student towards profession-related engineering tasks.

Work tasks that are accepted as industrial placement in Bio and Food Technology include tasks in utilization, planning, product development and managerial tasks. Technical customer service and marketing tasks are also suitable for industrial placement. Industrial placement guides a student towards mastering these tasks.

Core content level learning outcomes (knowledge and understanding)

A student knows practices and procedures used in working life and is also familiar with the working procedures, work methods and equipment used in real work life surroundings within his/her field of study. A student also widely knows the terminology used in his/her field of study.

Core content level learning outcomes (skills)

A student is able to apply and test skills acquired through studies in real-life working situations. Industrial placement deepens student?s abilities, guides a student towards profession-related tasks, supports professional development and prepares student towards independent way of working. Industrial placement should be diverse and show an upward trend of becoming more demanding.
