Course contents (core content level)
Different premisses for a design project, aspects to be taken into account in a process and product design project and different information sources usefull in a project, market and technology surveys as a part of a project, different phases and accuracy in a preliminary design project, plant capacity determination, survey of process alternatives, process description with different sheets, standards and permissions, process synthesis and choice of equipment types, examples of mass and energy balances, rough calculation of sizes of equipments and building, rough lay-out, calculation of production and investment costs, financial results and economic feasibility, basics of sensitivity analysis

More detailed surveys for a specific project on the process, products, properties of all the materials, safety, choice of equipments, costs, mass and energy balances, sheets with instrumentation and process flows, sensitivity analysis on various factors
Core content level learning outcomes (knowledge and understanding)
After completion of the course the student understands how a design project can start, how it proceeds and what can be the results. The student recognizes how the contents of other courses can be applied. The student knows the most important information sources for a design project. The student knows the principles of technical and economical calculations and understands how the feasibility of plant/process/product can be evaluated.
Core content level learning outcomes (skills)
After completion of the course the student is able to compare alternative product and process concepts. The student is able to draw various sheets with material and energy flows according to standards. The student is able to get information on processes and equipments and can calculate costs and financial results and evaluate process faesibility and its sensitivity fro various factors. The student is also able to work in a group according to timetables and report
