Course contents (core content level)

The structure and function of biomolecules ( proteins, nucleic acids, lipids, carbohydrates ); expression and transmission of genetic information; mechanisms of enzyme action, general metabolic pathways: glycolysis, citric acid cycle, oxidative phosphorylation, glyconeogenesis; general experimental methods in biochemistry.

Course contents (additional)

Molecular models and three dimensional structures and dynamics of cell components in different conditions; more detailed and newest information of DNA replication, RNA synthesis and splicing and protein synthesis; regulation and integration of metabolic processes.

Core content level learning outcomes (knowledge and understanding)

After completion of this course the students understand the molecular structure and dynamics of biomolecules, their function in genetic mechanisms and metabolism. The key role and mode of action of enzymes in the living cells so as the general experimental methods in biochemistry are known to them.

The students are able to utilize their knowledge of biochemical molecules and their reactions in the use and development of biotechnical products.
