Course contents (core content level)
Microbes in the nature and their role for the balance of nature; biochemical cycling : carbon, nitrogen, sulfur; pollution and possibilities to use microbes in cleaning processes; composting, microbiology of aerobic and anaerobic waste water treatment, biological removal of nitrogen and phosphorous from waste water, biodegradation of xenobiotic compounds, biotechnical applications in agriculture, microbial insecticides and fertilizer, gene manipulated grops
Course contents (additional)
Examples about new observations of distribution of microbes in nature; their effects on growth of forest and grops; analytical methods for measuring biodegradation speed

After completion of this course the student has an overview about essential effects of microbes for the balance of nature and are familiar with possibilities to use microbes in solving pollution problems
