Course contents (core content level)

Course is part of the Technology Business Module.

1. History. A very brief presentation of Russia up to the last days of the Soviet Union. A briefing of the main economic, social and political matters 1999 ? present date.
2. Culture. Russian culture and Russian business culture. The Russian business meeting procedure.
3. Business Activities. Russia as a market area, business environment in Russia and business operations in Russia.

Business environment: Moscow area, the North ? West ( mainly St. Petersburg ) area and the rest of Russia. Starting business activities in Russia. Starting company activities in Russia.

Real case presentation of Finnish, Russian and multi-national companies. Video shows of different items and matters.

Course contents (additional)

A deeper penetration into Russian business meeting procedure, starting business activities in Russia and starting company activities in Russia. SWOT analysis.

Core content level learning outcomes (knowledge and understanding)

After completion of this course the student is able to understand Russian culture and Russian business culture and the Russian business meeting procedure. Also he or she understands Russia as a market area, business environment in Russia and business operations in Russia. The student has a knowledge of how business transactions in real life are done, being it more or less conventional type industrial sales projects, international cooperation agreements based upon EU funding, large scale technology transfer, etc. Real exposure of activities in St. Petersburg for a week are given during an additional excursion or study tour (Course TUOL0084).

Core content level learning outcomes (skills)

After completion of this course the student is able to perform basic Russian market surveys, also, he or she may do starting business activities in Russia and starting company activities in Russia.

Assessment weighting and grading

Assessment of the voluntary homework assignments and compulsory report and the final exam. In order to pass the course (grade 1) only the exam together with the compulsory report have to be completed successfully.
