Course contents (core content level)
Different types of packages, metallurgy of soldering, phase diagrams, principles of soldering process, function of flux, flux dispensing, wave soldering, reflow soldering, soldering defects, soldering yield, electrochemical cell, electrolysis.
Course contents (additional)
Effect of impurities to the soldering, intermetallic layer and its thickness, different types of fluxes, principles of electrochemical corrosion.
Core content level learning outcomes (knowledge and understanding)
Students know typical packages used for electronic components and typical soldering methods in electronics industry, understand the function of flux, heat and solder in soldering process. Students know what are electrochemical cell and electrolysis.
Core content level learning outcomes (skills)
Students can analyse qualitatively binary solid-liquid phase diagrams, are able to calculate the cell voltage using Nernst equation and solve simplified electrolysis problems using Faraday?s law.
