Course contents (core content level)
Basics of the automation technology. Basic elements of the discrete control automation. Observing, recognizing and identifying of the piece goods. Control system in automation technology, programmable logic controllers. Material handling, transporting and warehousing. Exploiting of the automation in packaging processes and systems.

Meaning and basics of the measurement and control technology. User interfaces in automation. Implementation of an automation project.
Core content level learning outcomes (knowledge and understanding)
After completion of this course the student understands which elements the automation system of the discrete automation consists of, and is able to exploit automation technology in developing of material handling, transporting and warehousing + packaging processes and systems.

The student is able to operate as part of the automation project group and understands the meaning and purpose of the different elements in automation system. Students understand how sensors are connected to the control system and how the control and supervision of the automation system operates and how the field devices are controlled.
