Communication system and network, signals, gain, loss and decibel unit, transmission media, exchanges, modulation and multiplexing, transmission systems and standards PCM, PDH, SDH.
Course contents (additional)
Digital transmission, digital transmission system, data transmission, OSI-model, TCP/IP protocols, LAN.
Core content level learning outcomes (knowledge and understanding)
After completing the unit the student knows the construction and operation of transmission system and the communication network architecture. The student is able to understand basic concepts of transmission and characteristics of different transmission medium. The student has knowledge in principles of modulation and multiplexing processes.
Core content level learning outcomes (skills)
After completing the unit the student has skills to do calculations for transmission over different transmission medium. The student is able to use dB units in calculations and apply the link budget concept especially for radio transmission.
