Prerequisites
Local Area Networks, Internetworks and Virtual Local Area Networks.
Course contents (core content level)
Basic terminology relating wireless local area networks: access point, client, wireless topology, bridges, antennas and the functionality of the wireless local area networks. Design, installation, configuration and management of wireless local area networks:
· Design a logical wireless LAN architecture for mobile wireless users
· Installation of in-building and building-to-building WLANs
· Hardware setup and software configuration of wireless products
· Upgrading wireless products and troubleshoot performance issues
· Security using WEP, LEAP and 802.1x protocols.
Course contents (additional)
Emerging wireless technologies, site survey and wireless applications.
Core content level learning outcomes (knowledge and understanding)
The course aim is to familiarise students to plan, implement and troubleshoot wireless LANs. The particular emphasis is on:
· Understanding wireless radio technologies and topologies
· Design, installation and configuration of wireless LANs
· Monitoring and maintenance of wireless LANs
· Identifying wireless security threats and vulnerabilities
· Troubleshooting wireless installation and configurations.
After completing the unit, the student understands basic terminology relating wireless local area networks. The student knows the basics of planning, installing, managing and securing wireless local area networks.

Upon completion of the course, students is able to plan, configure and manage the most common wireless technologies applied in local area networks.
