Network Management significance, functional areas and views, NMS system elements, SNMP protocol versions and details, and NMS data models. Device management, Remote Monitoring and Desktop Management system implementation, usage and information. New developments in Network Management.

Core content level learning outcomes (knowledge and understanding)
After completing the unit, the student will know the technical and financial importance of systematic network management, common network management tasks, component and protocols. The student will know differences, shortcomings and configuration requirements for various SNMP versions. He/she is aware of DMTF initiatives for network management development.
Core content level learning outcomes (skills)
After completing the unit, the student will be able to specify and configure network devices for SNMP management, to identify the SNMP variable in question from the MIB description and to set up a simple device management system.

Theoretical and practical learning results are tested with a written examination, and with laboratory working and reports. For passing the course, acceptable laboratory working and reports, and a sufficient total weighted score for laboratory works and exams is needed.
