Time and frequency domain represantations of signals
Digital CW-modualtion methods, e.g., M-PSK, M-QAM ja MSK.
Optimum selection of transmission methods and their comparison
Noise and errors in digital transmission

Optimum design of digital baseband receiver
Line codes and their characteristics
Bit error rate ralation to signal to noise ratio

Core content level learning outcomes (knowledge and understanding)

After completing the course a student understands why different transmission methods are used over different tranmission channels, e.g., fixed and mobile channels. He/she is able to see why and how modern systems achieve better performance as channel quality is improved.

After completing the course a student has basic knowledge for engineering of digital baseband systems. He/she can also estimate and plan, e.g., ADSL connections, and data rates and quality to be achieved.
