· Error control methods, error detection, ARQ and error correction
· Residual error rate and error control quality
· Implementation and design of some linear block codes, e.g., Hamming-codes
· Cyclic error correction codes, design, characteristics and implementation
· Syndrome decoding of cyclic block codes
· Bit error detection. Structure and implementation of CRC-codes
· Operation principle of convolutional codes and Viterbi decoder
Course contents (additional)
· Burst error correction codes, e.g., Fire codes
· Desing of good performace CRC-code
· Operation principle of Trellis Coded Modulation (TCM) and Turbo codes.
· Application examples, LAN, GSM, Bluetooth, etc.

After completing this course student understands importance of error control for high quality digital transmission. He/she is able to choose error correction method considering application requirements.
