Communication network, network topologies, access methods, multiplexing methods, transmission media, transmission systems, standards PCM, PDH, SDH, switching systems.

Radio links, construction, RF-unit, broadcasting systems, sound broadcast, DAB, television broadcast, DVB.

Core content level learning outcomes (knowledge and understanding)

After completing the unit the student knows communication network construction and network topologies. The student is able to understand spread spectrum technique and other access methods. The student has knowledge of a transmission systems and transmission media and a switching system principles.

After completing the unit the student has skills to analyse performance of nodes and transmission paths in a communication system. The student is able to select the transmission system for an application.
