Course contents (core content level)

Electromagnetic fields, Maxwell´s equations, Poynting vector, radio wave propagation modes, Fresnell´s zone, radio horizon, transmission lines and antennas, antenna parameters, linear antennas, aperture antennas, Friis transmission formula, radar equation.

Course contents (additional)

Power link budget, transmission lines and matching, reflection factor and SWR, matching principles, radio equipment components and units, transmitters and receivers.

Core content level learning outcomes (knowledge and understanding)

After completing the unit the student knows the electromagnetic fields and field parameters and the RF spectrum. The student is able to understand radio wave propagation modes and attenuation parameters and an antenna principles. The student has knowledge of antenna parameters and the student knows the Friis transmission formula and the radar equation.

Core content level learning outcomes (skills)

After completing the unit the student has skills to calculate transmitter radiated power, power density and field strength of the radio wave, radio paths attenuation, capture area of receiver antenna and received power. The student is able to apply the Friis formula and the radar equation.
