Course contents (core content level)
Types of mechanical loading and stresses induced by them. Relationship between stress and strain. Strength, toughness, elasticity, hardness, impact strength. Creep, safety factors, flexural buckling, notch effect.
Course contents (additional)
Determination of moment of inertia, drawing of diagrams of bending moments, determination of deflection under bending load, stress and strain states.
Core content level learning outcomes (knowledge and understanding)
After completing the course the students will know, how the mechanical properties affect the behaviour of materials. They will comprehend the stresses induced on structures by different kinds of mechanical loading. They will understand fully, which material properties are the most essential for withstanding different types of mechanical loads.
Core content level learning outcomes (skills)
The students will be able to avaluate the mechanical performance of materials and structures in straightforward loadings.
