Course contents (core content level)

The general causes of material failures. The main mechanical failure mechanims, manifestation of failures, factors affecting failures and avoiding of failures. Wear mechanisms and factors affecting wear. Mechanical and environment induced failures of plastics, rubbers and ceramics.

Course contents (additional)

Failure cases, appearance of fracture surfaces with very large (10 000 x) magnifications. Drop impingement erosion.

After completing the course students will know the factors inducing material failures and has the know-how needed to avoid failures.
