Hot dip galvanizing processes for steel structures and for coil, wires and tubes
Design requirements for steel structures to be galvanized
Pretreatment process and requirements for pretreatment

The effect of steel composition on the structure and thickness of the coating
The effect of dipping temperature and dipping time on the coating
The effect of zinc bath on the coating properties
How to get high quality coating by hot dip galvanizing

Core content level learning outcomes (knowledge and understanding)

The students knows the principles of hot dip galvanizing processes. He or she knows the effect of steel composition, especially Si-content, on the coating, its microstructure and properties. He knows the effect of dipping time and temperature and different pretreatments on the coating properties. He also knows the importance of the design of steel structures on the hot dip galvanizing to be performed safely. He knows the corrosion properties of hot dip coated surfaces and also the benefits of duplex-painting.

Core content level learning outcomes (skills)

The student can perform in practice hot dip galvanizing and can analyse the effect of Si-content and shot blasting on the thickness and microstructure of the zinc coat.
