key vocabulary; pronunciation; basic grammar, i.e. basic sentence types and structures, conjugation of verbs in the present tense (verb types 1-5), basic noun types and the nominative, partitive, genitive and local cases, consonant gradation; oral and written communication in simple everyday situations

Core content level learning outcomes (knowledge and understanding)

On completion of the course the student will be familiar with the basic vocabulary and communication in everyday situations, such as meeting people and telling them about himself or herself, telling about one?s daily schedule, studying, eating and shopping. The student will be familiar with basic grammar, i.e. sentence types and structures, the present tense of verb types 1-5, basic nominal types, the nominative, partitive, genitive and local cases and consonant gradation. The student will know the characteristics of spoken Finnish: sounds, intonation and vowel harmony.

Core content level learning outcomes (skills)

On completion of the course the student will be able to introduce and tell someone about himself or herself or another person both orally and in writing, use greetings and numbers, tell the time and ask and answer simple questions in everyday situations.
