- visual design in print and digital publishing workflow
- graphical outlook and language

- principles of typographic design
- elements in visual design and their function in publishing
- text typography
- image design,layout and harmony
- page layout, styles and rules in layout design
- colors as visual elements
- materials in graphic production e.g. printing

- user interfaces and usability in publishing design
- graphical design in producing house styles and brand products
- special features in different publications ( book, magazines, brochures, www-pages etc)

Core content level learning outcomes (knowledge and understanding)

On completion of this unit the student will know the importance of visual design in media, the basic concepts of graphical design, typographic language and measuring units. He/she will understand basic backgrounds for visual design and the impact of the visual solutions on consumer interaction.

On completion of this unit the student will be able to apply graphical design principles in producing a simple print- or www - publication.
