Course contents (additional)

Core content level learning outcomes (knowledge and understanding)

The goal is to study the relation theory, the structure and design methods for maintainable relational databases, and Standard Query Language (SQL) as the language for database management. The network access to databases from operating systems and applications will also be covered in the course. Various examples of typical networked database applications will be presented and analysed.

After completing the course the student will
· understand the concepts and functionality of relational databases
· know the methods used in developing networked database applications
· be able to implement networked databases and manage them with SQL
· understand the transactions and their control in large distributed systems
· integrate relational databases with back end applications
· understand the concepts of data warehouses and data mining
