Course contents (core content level)

This course covers topics such as the history and importance of frames in painted art, deterioration mechanisms of frames, materials and methods used when framing (with emphasis on gilded frames). Cleaning, preparation of missing decorative elements, applying putty and different retouch methods (including filling gilded/silvered surfaces by using original methods are part of this course. Frame documentation procedures are also carried out at the beginnig of the course according to the principles used at the department. Individual/group (pairs) work.

Upon completion the students will understand the importance of frames, deterioration birth mechanisms of gilded surfaces as well as the methods and materials used when restoring different frames.
