Course contents (core content level)
During the course both synthetic and natural resin varnishes will be studied in theory and practice (practical application of varnishes)
Course contents (additional)
The natural and synthetic resin varnishes, their properties, and behaviour, different types of matt and glossy varnishes will be taught. Also the use of different varnishes, depending on the object / painting to be varnished. Both spray varnishing and brush / hand varnishing will be taught.

Opiskelijat tuntevat erityyppiset lakat, niiden käyttäytymisen (mm kiilto, vanheneminen..) ja käyttömahdollisuudet eri tilanteissa ja osaa lakata maalauksia sivellin- ja ruiskulakkaustekniikalla.
Students get to know different types of natural and synthetic resin varnishes, their gloss, ageing and use in different situations, depending on esthetical and other object related reasons. Students are able to brush / hand varnish and spray varnish the painting.

Opiskelijat osaavat valita oikeantyyppisen lakan (valmistaa sen) ja lakata maalauksen vaatimusten mukaisesti joko sivellinlakkaustekniikalla tai ruiskulakkaustekniikalla, ottaen huomioon vaadittavan lopputuloksen (lakan paksuus, kiilto, tasaisuus)
Students are able to choose right type of varnish for each painting and varnish it according to requirements either by using brush varnishing or spray varnishing technique and are able to assess the final result (glossyness, mattness, even distribution of varnish) according to desired final result.
