Students will acquire a good command of the history and preparation of writing inks. The emphasis will be on identifying the paper-corrosive iron gall ink.A short essay on identification and conservation of different historical writing inks will be prepared as a group task.

This course provides the student with knowledge of the history of writing inks. Students will be able to prepare and identify iron gall inks. The student will understand the problems connected with paper preservation and writing substances .
