Prerequisites
First and second year professional studies, basic courses in paper conservation and metals in textiles conservation.
Course contents (core content level)
Deterioration and conservation methods of mixed material textiles. Different materials encountered in textiles, such as paper, metal threads, beads, glass, etc, and the effect on textile and its conservation. Previously learned conservation skills are put into practise.
Course contents (additional)
Knowledge of new materials, new conservation methods, self-access, use of archives, and other individual literature search. Preparation and presentation of a special seminar work of a chosen subject.
Core content level learning outcomes (knowledge and understanding)
Upon completion the course student knows the behaviour of textiles made from mixed materials, and understands the interaction between different materials and their mechanism of deterioration. Student understands the effects of different conservation methods on mixed material textile. Student understands the meaning of independent knowledge search.
Core content level learning outcomes (skills)
Upon completion the course student is able to conserve a textile made of mixed material, and search literature independently. Student is able to draft an appropriate conservation plan and conservation report on a conserved object. Student is able to apply the previous knowledge in conservation work.
Student is able to assess own skills, and to give others constructive feed back.
