The common history of layout design for magazines
The most relevant trend setters and their work
Typography in magazines and newspapers
The basics of how a magazine publishing company works, visual journalism and illustrations
Workflow and co-operation in publication
Advanced information about programs used to create and manipulate the graphics in publications
How to save a publication, sending created publication to the printing company

Core content level learning outcomes (knowledge and understanding)
The course gives the student know essentials of the history of maganize layout desing, knows the most influential innovators of the field and is familiar with their works. The student is aware of the need of constant renewal and understands the importance of being up to date with magazine graphics
The student has basic knowledge of print media typography, layout design and the communicational requirements of publishing graphics and is aware of ethical principles of publishing graphics.
The student knows how the layout programs work. He also has knowledge what is required of graphical technology in print medias and understand the importance of co-operation in publication.
Core content level learning outcomes (skills)
After the course the student is cabable of working as a layout designer for a magazine. He is literate with layout designing programs and can adapt himself with the communicational organization of magazine publishing company
