- As practical tools on the course are applied a design application and different commercial and open source database management applications.

After completing the course the student knows the basics of database management process and it?s phases as well as methods and tools. Student is also capable of participating to the design processes of databases and can assess them successfully.
Taidolliset oppimistulokset (ydinaines ja -osaaminen)
After completing the course the student is capable of assessing the demand, usage, and application of database management system. For this purpose the most general design systems and their practices are being introduced.
The focus of the course is in relational database systems and in both local and distributed applications. In laboratory exercises an incremental database system is being designed and implemented.
Also the practices of using SQL as data design and manipulation language are being carried out in lectures and exercises.
The wide exploitation of databases is being emphasized by getting acquainted to data warehouses existing behind the decision support systems. Also different reporting methods and data mining are introduced in the same context.
