By the end of the course, students will:
* understand the process and nature of communication, non-verbal and verbal communication, intercultural communication and differences between oral and written communication
* have learned the importance of planning, organising, drafting, writing and editing accurate, clear and well-presented contemporary written business documents
* have learned the importance of being able to communicate at suitable levels of sophistication, style and register in all aspects of business communication
* know how to structure and give effective oral business presentations

Rationale
This course will build on and improve students' existing communication skills on both a business and interpersonal level.

Aims
The course will focus on the main aspects of communication in a business context and introduce the student to communication theories and their application. Students will be given opportunities to develop their professional communication skills orally and in writing.

Opetusmenetelmät

Teaching strategies will include a variety of methodologies to illustrate the communication topics under discussion. Students' communication skills will be evaluated in all class work, seminars and discussions, individual and group projects and portfolio assignments. Students will receive assistance and guidance in designing and creating their own business communication portfolio, which will give them the opportunity to work according to their own individual written communication needs.

Arvioinnin perusteet

Please see course syllabus on first day of class for grade break-down. Students will be expected to participate actively in all aspects of the course throughout the semester. A minimum of 90% attendance is required. A passing grade must be obtained on all assignments in order to pass the course. Assignments completed late will not be accepted without extenuating circumstances.
