Rationale
To enable students to develop a broader strategic perspective on international developments that will enhance their managerial skills.

Aims
With increasing economic integration, it is no longer possible for business managers to ignore the impact of events in distant countries. The consequences of both the Asian crisis of 1997 and the invasion of Iraq in 2003 showed that global markets are more linked than ever before. This process is likely to continue. What is required is a structured approach to complex problems that enables decision-makers to take account of the difficulties and opportunities in a developing global business environment. This course will introduce various theoretical perspectives that provide the analytical tools necessary to make sense of that environment. Students will be able to apply these tools to topics of their choosing, thereby enhancing their understanding of problem situations that relate to their particular interests and goals.

This course requires a lot of reading. Students must be prepared to take advantage of the extensive selection of relevant books available in the library, in addition to the online resources accessible via the library's web pages. Also, regular use of quality newspapers and periodicals will greatly enhance the student experience.

Arvioinnin perusteet

To successfully pass this course the student must achieve an average of 45%. In addition, the student must pass the final exam. The individual essay involves selecting a topic relevant to the subject area and conducting detailed research on that. The second assessment is a traditional exam. Ambush tests will be conducted in class at times chosen at random.
