These workshops are intended for those students who are not studying in English in their home institutions. Exchange students have different needs and wishes for improving their English and the workshop framework for this course allows students to select and attend sessions which are relevant. Giving presentations or producing academic assignments in English may be a challenge for some. Others may need assistance with writing emails in English and others may require grammar practice. The workshops have been designed to provide assistance, support and guidance for those who need it throughout the semester. A full schedule will be available at the start of the semester in Ovi Portal with more details on the content of each workshop and recommended reference literature. Social situations
Oral skills ? spoken exercises, pronunciation practice, intonation, stress
Study Skills ? academic writing, taking notes, exams, essay titles, referencing
Language for business analysis; cause and effect, trends
Writing emails and basic business messages
Presentation skills
Grammar review
CVs, job applications and interviews in English (non CO/WPO students)
Team skills in English

Arvioinnin perusteet

To achieve credit for the course, the student needs to attend a minimum of 5 workshops, submit a written assignment and give an oral presentation.

The course is graded on a Pass/Fail basis and students receive a certificate at the end.
