After completing the unit the student is able to understand the basic structure and operation of public telecommunication networks. He/she is also able to understand how bandwidth and noise restrict information transmission. He/She will also know basic characteristics of different transmission media, such as copper cable, optical fiber and radio path, and transmission systems. Dependin go the lecturer course contents may be extended by topics from the area of data or mobile communications.
