Information Technology Profession

Information technology professionals work in the various areas of IT business: in telecommunications industries, software enterprises, service providers, and in many other IT-related companies.

Objectives

The industries and businesses representing different application areas of information technology, such as tele-communications, are becoming increasingly global in their operations. The main educational aim of the Master of Engineering degree programme is to prepare students for advanced specialist tasks in international engineering surroundings in telecommunications and software industries. EVTEK has substantial educational and research activities in communication networks, real-time software, embedded systems and mobile applications.

Competencies

The goal of Master's degree studies in Information Technology is to provide a student with the latest knowledge and skills required in advanced tasks in the information technology.

The Master's degree programme consist of studies of 60 ECTS credits. A Final Year Project (Master's Thesis) plays a major role in the Master's degree constituting a total of 30 ECTS credits. The Final Year Project is usually carried out in a real working life environment. Methodological studies provide students with the basis for carrying out applied research projects.

Professional studies provide students with the latest knowledge and skills to follow professional development of the field, both from the applied research and practical viewpoints.

Structure of the Programme

The Master of Engineering degree totals in 60 ECTS credits and takes two years to complete. Classes take place during evenings, and students participarting in the Master's degree are usually in full-time employment.

The degree consists of Professional studies (25 ECTS), a course in applied mathematics and of a Final Year Project. A student chooses courses that comprise altogether 25 ECTS credits out of the course offerings.

The studies during the 1st year consist of course in applied mathematics and Professional studies of the chosen specialisation option. A Final Year Project is undertaken during the 2nd year of studies.

Studies consist of lectures, laboratory work, assignments and projects done individually or in groups as well as of independent studying. Studies are practically oriented. During laboratory work and , a student learns co-operation skills, abilities to acquire and process information, assessment and problem-solving skills.
