Aims and Requirements

The central objectives in the polytechnic studies are working life orientation and practical skills. The work placement which is compulsory in EVTEK studies supports these aims. The length of work placement is 20 weeks, and the extent, including the reports and completed work and career planning study units, is 30 credit points. In European Business Administration degree programme the length of placement is 40 weeks and the extent is 60 credit points.

The aims of work placement are that the student will:
• become familiar with practical working life
• become familiar with the company and its business
• become familiar with the functions of the field
• learn how to apply the acquired know-how in practise
• create functioning relations to the company (and possibly also to the network of the company acquire information and material for Bachelor’s Thesis.

The requirements and practise of the work placement follow the Guidelines for Work Placement of the study field. The degree certificate cannot be granted unless all the required placement has been completed.

It is possible to begin the placement during the first study year earliest. The placement can be completed in one part (20 weeks) or in two parts (10 weeks + 10 weeks). The amount of basic placement in the field of economics and administration can be maximum 10 weeks. At least half (10 weeks) of the placement should be profession-related placement in the student’s specialisation field. This placement can be completed only after the student has participated in the studies of this specialisation field. If the placement is carried out in one period (20 weeks), the whole period must be profession-related placement in the student’s specialisation field.

Implementation

Work placement is completed during study time. It is advisable to complete the placement in summer; after the first study year the basic placement and after second or third study year the profession-related placement. The basic placement can be completed also during semesters or as continuous part-time work for the same employer.

Work placement is usually carried out as paid employment. If needed, students can apply for student financial aid for the training period (see Study practices > Student Financial Aid). It is possible to apply for e.g. a travel grant for international training from EVTEK.

Work Placement Abroad

Work placement can also be completed abroad. International placement is supported primarily for those students who have already advanced in their studies. International placement can be applied for example through: EVTEK’s international co-operation projects and through various trainee exchange projects.

Supervision and Approval

Registration for placement periods is made through Winha, similarly as course registrations. Students will write a placement report and deliver it to Placement Coordinator.

Counselling and Guidance

The lecturer in charge of the specialisation field will give more information on work placement.
