Student Exchange Programmes

Lifelong Learning Programme Erasmus

Erasmus is a sub-programme of the European Union`s Lifelong Learning Programme. The Erasmus programme intends to promote the cooperation between the European institutions and to increase the mobility of students and teaching staff. Erasmus is also the biggest student exchange programme: dozens of students from EVTEK go abroad and dozens of exchange students come over to Finland through Erasmus every year. The Erasmus cooperation is based on bilateral agreements between the European institutions of higher education (Switzerland not included). A student applying for the Erasmus programme must be a citizen of an EU Member State or a citizen of another participating country of the Lifelong Learning Programme. The list of the country-participants of the Lifelong Learning Programme is available through the website of the programme . A student who is a citizen of a country other than listed above but who resides permanently in Finland (marked with ā€Aā€ or ā€Pā€ in the passport) can also apply for the Erasmus programme. Students who have been granted a full refugee status or stateless students are also eligible to apply for the Erasmus programme. Please note that a student can go on student exchange abroad with the Erasmus status only once.

The EU offers intensive language training for the Erasmus students, the Erasmus Intensive Language Courses (EILC). EILC courses are from three to eight weeks long beginners` or advanced courses in less commonly spoken European languages (all languages of the Erasmus countries except English, French, German and Spanish). The courses are held in July-September before the autumn semester and also in January-February before the spring semester. In all countries the exact dates for these courses are decided by each country. The closing date for applications for the autumn courses is May 31st and for the spring courses October 31st. The closing date for the internal applications at the sending university is before these dates each year. Further information about the internal application procedure of EVTEK will be sent to those students selected for exchange. The amount of the EILC Scholarship is 400 euros. For more information on the language courses and how to apply please visit the EILC website .

Nordplus Programme

The Nordplus programme for teachers and students was established by the Nordic Council of Ministers in 1988 with a goal to enhance and consolidate the Nordic cooperation in higher education. Students who participate in the Nordplus programme have a chance to apply for Nordplus scholarship. The Nordic partner institutions of School of Business Administration and Institute of Technology are part of Nordplus student exchange programme. EVTEK is part of EkoTekNord network of eighteen other Nordic educational institutions of higher education under the Nordplus programme.

Bilateral Agreements

EVTEK has several study field specific bilateral agreements with its partner institutions in Russia, Malaysia, Thailand, China, South Korea, Canada, Spain, Italy, Malta and Switzerland. These bilateral agreements complement the Erasmus and Nordplus programmes. According to the bilateral agreements exchange students are exempted from tuition fees during the exchange period.

Student Exchanges outside Student Exchange Programmes ("Free mover" -student exchanges)

Student exchange at an institution other than in one of partner institutions, outside the student exchange programmes, needs to be approved by the Director of your Degree Programme. In order to get ECTS credits from the completed studies, the Degree Programme Director has to approve the host institution of higher education and the planned studies in there. You should keep in mind that finding this kind of a student exchange place may often be difficult and expensive (tuition fees, travel expenses, accommodation, etc.).
