Returning from Student Exchange

Reporting

A returning exchange student writes a report on his/her student exchange. The travel report should be submitted within a month after the return from student exchange. More detailed instructions for reporting will be given later.

The travel report on your exchange will stay at the home institution and will be used, for example, for marketing and/or informational purposes.

Credit transfers

A student should ask for a transcript of records/study transcript of the studies completed during the student exchange from his host institution before returning home. The study transcript is needed for application for the credit transfer at the home institution. Student need to ask/collect course descriptions of all the completed courses to be attached to the study transcript. The course descriptions should contain the following information:

  • the total number of hours of the course
  • the mode for completing the course
  • the lecturer, the name of the professor
  • the grade scale
  • the total number of study points (Erasmus: in ECTS credits)

Usually the final study transcript will be sent afterwards to the student or to the International Office. You should apply for the credit transfer of ALL the courses completed during the student exchange. You need to apply for the credit transfer of all your studies abroad at the same time and immediately after the exchange records are available. The Director of Degree Programme (Institute of Technology and Institute of Art and Design) or the Principal Lecturer (School of Business Administration) is responsible for the credit transfer and substitution of your studies to your degree.

After returning from the student exchange, you need to fill in the Credit Transfer Application Form to which you need to attach the copies of the transcripts of records/study transcript of the studies completed at the host institution, course descriptions and the Learning Agreement.

Other

The International Office is interested in experiences of student exchange and therefore exchange students should visit their Student Exchange Coordinator after they have returned from exchange. You can also discuss opportunities to increase internationalisation even after the return from student exchange. All the students who have returned from exchange are, from the point of view of the International Office, ”former exchange students”. They have the latest news of the host institution and they also know the little tricks which could make the staying at the host institution and in the host country easier. The International Office wants to make the knowledge that the former exchange students have to be available for the next outgoing exchange students and therefore the former exchange students are very much welcome to the student exchange information events.
